Spraoi will soon issue a call-out for 2025 New Emerging Street Talent (N.E.S.T.) artists. Applications will be invited by early December, deadline for artists submissions will be in early January. However, there is no need to wait until the official call-out. If you are passionate about creating a new street arts performance – start thinking about it now. Here are some initial ideas to work with.
Gemma Mae Halligan and Jude Quinn perform as Amadan Ensemble and were the 2024 N.E.S.T. artists. They created Mdme Kakapo & Son, a wonderful two-hander strolling street comedy show. It performed to enthusiastic audiences at Spraoi and its partnering festivals in Scotland, England, and Wales.
Gemma Mae and Jude’s performances were huge, but the production was compact. This is worth considering, compact ideas do not have to be small ideas. Compact does however make touring and earning a living from gigging much easier.
Here is another initial thought, it is probably best to bring an idea you are already working on to N.E.S.T. The schedule is best suited to working-up a production idea that exists rather than devising from scratch.
For now, start thinking about your new show idea, or dust-off an old idea you did nothing about at the time. The N.E.S.T. call-out will come in about six-weeks.
