Music Generation Waterford is a performance music education programme and was established in 2018 to create opportunities for children and young people to access and experience performance music education across Waterford City and County. MGW reaches over 3000 children and young people across Waterford each week throughout the academic year, with a team of 14 musician educators, programme administrator Áine McGinley and Music Development Officer Shauna McCullough as part of Music Generation,  initiated by Music Network funded by U2, The Ireland Funds and The Department of Education in partnership with Waterford and Wexford Education and Training Board and Waterford City and County Council.

Performing at Spraoi ’23 are –

Music Generation Waterford Harp Ensemble – From playing for King Charles during his Royal visit to Waterford City in 2022 to participating and performing at Edinburgh’s International 2023 Harp Festival. This remarkable group of talented local young musicians have achieved so much in a short space of time. They are ecstatic to be performing at Spraoi 2023 to showcase their breath taking set of traditional music.

Music Generation Waterford Wind Band – From Star Wars to Abba, they will have you grooving in no time. Made up of local young musicians who are no strangers to putting on a show and sometimes a dance-off, the group is ready to bring some grove and fun to Spraoi 2023.

The Dried Mangos – Made up of 10 local young musicians, they will have you popping to rock and pop with a little mix of jazz throughout their set. This band is no stranger to the stage. Performing locally at the Summer in The City 2023 Festival to across the country at the Old Fort 2023 Festival in Laois. The Dried Mangos will have you on your feet for the duration of their set.

Salted Currents – Formed last year, the Salted Currents have been getting their fair share of gigs under their belts. With only four local young musicians, the band is small in numbers but will have you rocking out to many big hits in under a beat.
